3 Steps to Becoming a Spiritual Master

“All that is virtuous and good, and right is that which comes from the soul to the mind and from the mind into the body.” Hazrat Inayat Kahn

To begin with let's do an exercise. I want you to hold your hand out in front of you, palm facing you and make a fist. Then slowly open your hand, finger by finger, starting with your thumb. Now slowly close your hand finger by finger in the reverse order.

Easy right? Now I want you to do the same thing again, but while you are doing this, I want you to think about who is opening and closing your hand. Go ahead, do it.

Step 1 – Awareness of Spirit, Mind, Body Programming

In that exercise, who was opening your hand? It was your spirit. From the moment you entered this world, your spirit has been using your mind to train your body. You ‘potty trained’ yourself between 18 months and 3 years of age. That is when your spirit, learned how to train your mind, to control the voluntary anal sphincter muscle. We have taught our minds to crawl, walk, ride a bike, climb stairs, catch a ball, drive a car and thousands of other body movements. Increasingly more complex movements.

We have also trained our mind to manage symbols: our alphabet, numbers, time, distance, money. Road signs, painted lines on the road, billboards, books are all just symbols we have all agreed on. When you read a book, you are reading symbols. Those symbols, grouped together, are what we call words. And those words have agreed upon meanings. Those meanings allow us to share ideas. Our smart phones and computers display symbols. When we check our bank accounts, those are just agreed upon symbols. If we all went to the bank at the same time and asked for our money in cash, a bank does not have that much money. We even agree that a piece of green paper is worth so many dollars. This page you are reading is just agreed upon symbols to convey ideas and concepts.

Even the word God, is an agreed upon concept. And we all have varying concepts of what the meaning of the word God conveys. To some it is a king on a throne and to others it is some huge energetic force.

The overall point here is that our Spirits train our minds, and our minds train our bodies.

How our Spirit trains our mind, is how we perceive and interact with our reality.

Some simple examples would be: 1. have you trained your mind to think of this world as a place that is difficult to survive in or as a space to create and have fun in? 2. A place that is safe or a place that is dangerous? Or 3: a place where I always have what I need or a place where I am always lacking?

Step 1 is an awareness and acceptance that Spirit trains mind and mind trains body and how your spirit programs your mind is the reality you live in.

Step 2 – Alignment with Soul

You came into this world with a soul plan. A plan that would allow your soul to advance in knowledge and wisdom, so you could perfect your ability to create in wholeness and holiness (wholeness and holiness are the same words, anything that is whole is holy, anything that is holy is whole, not lacking in anything).

Or as Thomas Aquinas said in the Summa Theologica, his “Summary of Theology”, a 1.8-million-word tome published in 1485, “The reason man’s soul needs a body is because it is only potentially intelligent, not knowing everything innately, but needing to acquire knowledge through bodily experience of the sensible world”.

One thought might be, what better way to explore love than on this planet? True love requires a balanced interdependency and these bodies we are in, force interdependency just to live.

So, our Spirits come into this world with a soul plan and that plan leads us to advance in our ability to be aligned with God.

Alignment is Step 2. To stay aligned while on this planet, our individualized spirit here in this body must communicate with our larger spirit, our soul, which is the container of all of our multi-lifetime experiences and the container of our soul plan. The pineal gland is the biological antenna in our brain which connects us to our soul. But our antenna’s reception is weakened by static. The static is the noise of this world. The static is false beliefs and bad programming. Beliefs that judge people by skin color, religion, or nationality are static. A statement like ‘money can buy us happiness’ is static. Fear is static. Thinking we are better than others is static.

The static keeps our minds swimming in worldly false thoughts and dulls the reception of our soul plan. The language we use about ourselves and others, either helps reception or impedes reception of our connection to our higher spirit.

Once we acknowledge the need for alignment, we move to Step 3.

Step 3 – The Practice of DeCluttering

The practice of decluttering our mind, is an easy practice. We look at our false beliefs, our static, that we picked up in this world and we release it. I love this bible verse, “Do not conform yourselves to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that you may know the perfect and pleasing will of God”.

We come into this world, and we conform ourselves to it. We forget we are spirits in bodies, and we start treating this place like it is our forever home. We hoard, we cheat, we are disrespectful of our planet and our fellow spirits. But, if we began to look at our lives from a higher perspective, a perspective where we realize this world is for our growth and that our inherent nature’s, are the nature of God. Then with awareness we can begin transforming our minds and making them new again. Then the static begins to dissipate, and we can hear our soul plan signal clearly and stay in alignment with the perfect and pleasing will of God.

The two reasons decluttering is hard; first, we must recognize the cluttering we have allowed ourselves to believe and secondly, we have emotionally attached ourselves to the cluttering and therefore is can be hard to release.

But remember, Spirit trumps mind. So, as our spirits with awareness identify the false beliefs that are contradictory to our inherent godliness, our static will just fall away. And every time we identify a false programming and with awareness watch it, it will dissolve on its own because our spirit senses the falseness. And every time we do this, the process gets easier and easier. And our refinement gets finer and finer, and our purity exudes.

As we become highly refined, our inherently powerful and loving spirits shine forth and allow us to move through the world with peace and grace.

Liberation is our true inheritance, claimed through daily decisions to love and release.

PS – Yeshua said, “The Father and I are one”. The religious leaders at that time wanted to stone Yeshua for this because they considered it blasphemy. But Yeshua could say this, because he knew all Spirit is one Spirit. And when we bring ourselves into alignment, we our operating out of our individuation, but also in perfect alignment with the All. And when we operate in perfect alignment with the All, we our trusted with power that can be used for the betterment of the All. But spiritual power is not given to those who are not trustworthy. That is the reason for an incarnation on this planet, to learn to use our powers to create in wholeness and holiness.
